Injury plagued, St. Hubert loving, former Sens goalie Pascal Leclaire announced Tuesday that he is hanging up his pads. Leclaire, only 30 years old was selected eighth overall by Columbus at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. In 2007-08, he finished 2nd in the NHL with 9 shutouts, 7th in GAA (2.25) and 11th in save percentage (.919).
At the 2009 trade deadline he was dealt to Ottawa for Antoine Vermette. A third part of that trade was a 2nd round pick that is now Robin Lehner.
While in Ottawa things went from bad to worse for Lehner. NBC summarizes his history of ailments as follows:
– 2006-07: Missed over 40 games with a knee injury.
– 2008-09: Missed over 40 games with an ankle injury.
–2009-10: Missed over 20 games with a concussion and broken jaw.
– 2010-11: Missed over 40 games with the aforementioned hip injury.
I recommend Leclaire find a nice chair and just site there and enjoy the millions he did make in his shortened career.
