Holy crap, CBC is sad and pathetic
« on: June 09, 2008, 03:57:57 PM »

So, I'm sure most of us have heard about the CBC's difficulties in negotiating the rights for their theme song.

Now it turns out, CTV/TSN ******* stole it, and will now be using the theme on their broadcasts.

First their broadcasting contract with the NHL gets reduced, and TSN gets a bigger share, and now this?   I see CBC shutting down completely in a decade.

HAHAHA...the CBC just got pwnd!

Serves them right.

HNIC is old, tired, formulaic and unoriginal. The one thing they decide to change is the one thing they should have left alone.

I really don't want some ******* amateurs coming up with a new HNIC song.

They should have kept the song and held a competition to replace Cole, Cherry and MacLean instead.

I think it's an odd move by TSN & co. to pick up the song.  They're known for doing their own thing and being different/innovative.  Now they're just picking up CBC's garbage.

They should use Brian Adam's cool cool song "We're gonna win"  I LOVE IT!

I love it...TSN is totally rubbing it in by leading off SportsCenter with the HNIC theme song.

If Buffy played for the Sens they would suck less.

I wholeheartedly agree.

Eff the songwriting contest, they should get on the phone to Stompin' Tom and buy The Hockey Song before it's too late.

I have not liked HNIC for a while.  And while this is a shot at CBC, and that's cool, I still think the song's a little lame when attached to TSN.

CBC hate doesn't make this a good call by TSN.

Even if they never play the song once the cost is worth the media coverage they'll get.

Great move.

That might be true.  But if they make it their theme permanently ... there's a little bit of recycled trash aura to the whole thing.  Generally not TSN's vibe.

Meh, it's a song - who cares. CBC has much bigger concerns.

TSN? What? Why the hell would that want that tired old piece of crap?

I think this is a coup for TSN mostly because it hastens the erosion of HNIC's brand.

I also think the song will lose some of its charm on Cable.

On a side note, CBC's incompetence is starting to worry me about the future of public broadcasting in Canada.
