Those people are paid to write things like that. Things that most of us could easily surpass.

Well, you should start a blog then (unless of course you already have one)! Maybe ESPN will see it and hire you.

I'm mainly just ticked about the shots at Canada.

I agree, actually. There were a few tidbits that were interesting to read, but overall it felt like a really patronizing, condescending type article towards Canadians, a way to say "oh how cute, they like hockey," pat us on the head and move on to more important sports.

Really? I didn't think it was that bad. The two women who wrote it are, I think, big hockey fans (they were the ones who participated in that NHL radio interview with Mike Fisher a while back, if I recall), so I doubt they meant it that way.

No, I am sure they didn't mean for it to be that way, but that is, at least for me, how it came across. And perhaps the fact that ESPN got these women, who know little about hockey as they are just starting out with it, treat the sport as a whole. I did recognize them from the interview with Fisher, I assume that's why they referenced him a couple times in the article. Either way, I didn't like the article, because it seemed rather patronizing. "Oh how cute, they have french on their signs" or "Oh how cute, they actually have bars here." Just not a fan of this kind of writing in what is supposed to be a network for serious sports fans.

I especially liked the part about how we're obsessed with American food because we have some Boston Pizza franchises here.
I guess Americans are obsessed with Australian food because they have a bunch of Outback Steakhouses.

Anyone who has watched and laughed at Rick Mercer 'talking to Americans' really has nothing to say about the anti-Canadianism of the article.

It is dumb, but you know what? Anything that brings an ounce more attention to the sport... and actually injects some life into it besides the same boring garbage... is fine by me. Their points about clothing styles and politeness and all that jazz... is dead on. NHL players have to step up and get interesting, because besides actuall games... hockey, and its culture, is ******* boring! The sport needs more Roenicks. Also, i think it's true (and sad) that our nation is a little too obsessed with 'the states' and everything it has to offer. Most of our restaurant chains are american. All of our clothing is american. Our vehicles? American. 50% of our building materials? American. Don't hate these women because they speak the truth as they see it. It's the first published piece i've seen in a LONG TIME that didn't say Ottawa was boring and uptight as hell, be happy!

The one in the picture was from radio. I don't know who the other one was. But knowing espn they probably make hundreds of thousands of dollars to do that stuff. I look at it this way, maybe a few more people will know about Phillips now. But it sounds like they will be in the southeast from now on anyway. LOL.

Yeah, because I am sure people reading this article, that aren't familiar with hockey are going to now suddenly be interested in the sport because she mentioned offhandedly Phillips and Fisher. To me, this ain't the kind of article that breeds interest in the sport. It breeds contempt.
